In the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring, the narrator say that men "...above all else, desire power." Do you think this is accurate? Why or why not? Give examples from books or real life to support your reasoning.

It means that men are easily corrupted by many things, like money. Money, at least today, is the symbol of power. If you have a lot of it, you might get to treat people nicely, by giving them some extra money that they need, or you could push them around because you have money and they don't. Galadriel, the narrator, is an elf. Elves were told by Tolkien to have immensely long lives, and therefore, learned how to live as a civil people. Without the trouble of corruption that Men suffer

Not all men are desire power. take me for example. If I was offered the job of president I would refuse. When faced with power, I will generaly not take it, unless it's the job as a general then I'll take it because it would be a dream come true to comand U.S. troops but I'm realy afraid of what will happen if I do so I set the line for the amount of authority I get at Naval fleet comander. I'm actually not trying to make myself look good, it's just power like being a president and me = Chaos, Thermo Nuclear war, riots, anarchy. Although I could do some good, I don't want to risk what I just listed. Not all men desire power, so that statement isn't true, unless men mean all Males of 21 years of age or older then it's true as far- no my dad doesn't desire power and not all men are power hungry megalomaniacs.

It means that men are greedy and want to have power over everything else.

I think this statement is accurate.
It teams that men want power, as in money. If men had money, they would be able to live happily. They would feel as if they can do what they want.

I think that phrase is true. Men do want power, mostly in wealth, but, who doesn't? Having power makes life better and easier. Everyone respects you and makes you feel important. Men definitely desire power most.

Yes, I do believe men desire power above all and I also agree with the person above who stated that money in today's society is considered as power, for it is. If it were'nt, so many men wouldn't have been forced to find a way to earn money, earn meaning to get, and not necessarily working hard and deserving it. Some men will resort to stealing, killing, and selling illegal substances, all for money. Basically money gives control and control is power, which is what some people believe. An example would be a book I recently read called Money Hungry. The main character would do almost anything for money because it gave her control of her life, but when her mom threw it all out, she lost control, she lost her power. On the other hand, everyone wouldn't mind having money or power, right?

I think that what the narrator said in the beginning of the movie was true. I believe this is true because many people in history wanted power over other people. For example Britain conquered many countries and that also leads to money. Britain which is part of Europe contains one of the most expensive currency in the world because they started out so well in the beginning. Men always want to brag about something and this is what the narrator was getting to. It always feels good to brag, and when you brag you feel in power. That is what I think the meaning of that was.

Yes i think this saying is very accurate. It it is shown in many examples through out history and even in everyday life. For example Napoleon Banaparte. He planned to take over all of Europe, but of course he failed. I believe he did this to stay on top and be in control of something more then France. He wanted to feel powerful.

Yes, I do think that above all else men do desire power more. For example, in many books that I have read so far many of the men in them have done anything for power even if it means killing someone. In the book that I am reading right now the father or step father if you would prefer has done anything possible to keep his power in society and in the business. So yes men do desire power above all.
